MEET KEDIST DELTOUR

Kedist Deltour's life changed when she was 7-years-old. Her mom got ill and her father saw another woman. At that age, she didn’t realize how ill her mom was. Because of this whole situation, she did not attend school and lived on the street. Her mom was too ill to take care of them and her father was never there. She was like a mom to her little brother and sister. When her mom died, she had to live with her father and his new wife.

That was a really difficult time. She had to work, clean the house, walk for more than 1 hour for water and carry it on her head back to the house. When her father didn’t see it, the stepmother gave them food in plates where you could see the ants walking around. One day, her father decided to bring the children to an orphanage. Her life changed when this Belgian family came and adopted all 3 of them. At that time she was 10 years old and she had to go to school in Belgium. Instead of the 4th grade, they put her in the 1st grade because she didn’t understand the language. After the 1st grade, she spoke Flemish and after the 4th grade, when she was 19, she graduated from school.

When she arrived in Belgium she saw in 2012 that Miss Belgium had African roots and from that moment she also thought of participating one day…So this is Kedist, from a street child to Miss Belgium!

ABOUT KEDIST DELTOUR

• Her name Kedist means Light and Hope.

• Kedist was born in Ethiopia and adopted when she was 10 years old by Belgian parents.
